History of Folk Oil Company and PS Food Mart

Folk Oil Company, Inc. currently manages 43 retail convenience stores in South Central Michigan and Northern Ohio. Folk Oil’s roots began in 1921 with L.H. Folk, a Standard Oil agent, providing fuel oil and lubricants to rural homes/farms in Calhoun County Michigan.

L.H. Folk’s successors were his son Robert Folk and his grandson, Richard Folk. Richard Folk became president of Folk Oil in 1973. In 1974, Folk Oil purchased the Homer Yost Service Station that became known as the “Pop Shop (PS),” and it became the first Folk Oil convenience store.

Folk Oil Company convenience stores operate under the name of “PS Food Mart.” Folk Oil currently owns and manages 43 convenience stores, 5 automatic Car Washes, 9 Subway Franchises, a Tubby's Sub franchise, a Denny’s Restaurant franchise, and the 115 Family Restaurant. You will find CITGO, or Sunoco fuel at our locations.

In providing a great experience to our customers, all of our locations have extra clean restrooms as well as friendly team members to assist you. We serve our gourmet “Java Peak” brand of coffee products and our Big Chill Zone fountain products.
